Happy Vaisakhi Surrey!
[With NDP leader John Horgan at the 2015 Vaisakhi parade.]
Over 350,000 people jammed into the streets of Surrey for the annual Vaisakhi parade. It’s a huge cultural event, and a great way to engage with a community. The day marks the new year and the birth of the Sikh faith. It’s wonderful to see individuals and families participate and to experience the sharing of food. This is the 18th year for the parade, and this new attendance record makes it one of the largest celebrations outside of India. Last year’s parade was attended by about 300,000.
